Limitations of the Available Data

The data available in EHDI-DASH is taken from the annual Hearing Screening and Follow Up Survey (HSFS) and subject to the following limitations:
  • Some jurisdictions did not respond to the HSFS in each year.
  • It is possible that some jurisdictions did not follow the guidance for the HSFS, which may affect the comparability of some LFU/LTD data.
  • Actual LFU/LTD rates may be lower than reported, as these depend on confirmed diagnostic results, which may not have been reported to the EHDI program.
  • Special note for 2013 Diagnostic data:
Due to delays in diagnostic testing, the number reported as identified with hearing loss in Marshall Islands may include cases of late-onset loss and/or transient losses.
